Scalping is the fastest style of trading. A scalper enters and exits within seconds or minutes, aiming to capture a few ticks or a few rupees repeatedly through the day. It relies on very liquid instruments with tight spreads, such as Nifty and Bank Nifty options or futures, and on fast execution. Suppose a scalper buys a Nifty option at ₹100 and sells at ₹102 thirty times a day; the gross gain is real, but so are thirty rounds of brokerage, STT and slippage, which can consume most of it. Scalping demands full attention, quick decisions and strict loss control, because one large loss cancels dozens of small wins. It is the least suitable style for a beginner: costs are highest, emotions are most intense, and the edge, if any, is thinnest. Learn slower styles first.
